20 Mile Run

Ran 20 miles this morning. The weather was perfect. Temperatures were in the 50's with very low humidity. Met up with my 2 running buddies and ran together for about 8 miles. I then ran the last 12 miles by myself. My objective today was to run the 20 at about a 9 minute pace. However I ended up with a 9:29 pace. Can't really explain it except hopefully at the next 20 in 2 weeks it will be faster. My total time was 3 hours and 9 minutes. I burned approximatley 2600 calories. I felt pretty good for about 15 miles then some soreness started to kick in. I consumed an energy gel at about mile 16.

Hi Al,

I'm in the Raleigh area, and training for NY as well. My numbers are pretty much paralleling yours, except I'm much slower than you.

I've been in Minnesota this week, so, I've had some great runs up there thanks to lower temps.

I'm going for my second 20 in a row this Saturday (On our Greenway system, north of Raleigh)

Anyway - good luck on the 2nd! I hope you achieve what you hope to.

This is my first NYC Marathon as a participant, but, I grew up in the city and have watched many. I already know what an awesome experience it is, from the other side of the barricades.

Thanks for the encouragement. Hope your training runs go well. I am sure that you are going to do quite well at the marathon.
